From this I will determine which reading strategies they are or are not using, check on accuracy, WPM, phrasing and expression.  They will continue to practice these passages at home until it is time to record them.  They are aware that I will be making a CD of their \u201cbest\u201d recordings they get to keep at the end of the school year.  They will also be graphing pre- and post data for their WPM.  They will be listening to themselves from time to time.  We have regular discussions about what a \u201cgood\u201d reader sounds like.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nFirst graders have been reading and practicing sight word poems and short books to record on the iPod. Our conversation has been more about phrasing and using expression.  We are not charting WPM.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nMy goal with both groups is to send home a copy of a recording to their parents using email.
